congrats on the find. the temps can be room temp ( mid to low 70's ). as long as the egg remains in the same position that you originally found it in, it is safe to move it over into the vermiculite.

as far as breeding goes, yes they should be the same species. breeding different species together saturates the market with hybrids. which is generally frowned upon.

however, the two species that you are referring to are actually the same animal. there are a few common names for the bearded pygmy chameleon, which can be a bit confusing sometimes.

Hi Again Cherisse,

The Pygmy layed another egg on Friday teh 13th. We have it in the soil that she layed it in inside a cup. What temperature should the egg be kept at. Also, I have the vermiculite now should I change the egg over into it? Thanks for the help.

Also does all teh pygmy;s in order to breed them need to be the same kind. Can I breed a Bearded one with a Pygmy Leaf female?

hello again, Tera. Perlite is a product that is used in aerating soil for house plants. this can be purchased in the lawn/plant section at any retail store that carries plant materials. another medium that is acceptable for use is Vermiculite. it has the same usage as stated above and can be found at the same outlets. thank you for your kind words regarding my site. i am glad that it is helping people. FLchams.com has a nice selection of WC and CB pygmy's available. they have friendly service and decent prices. you might give them a try.
if you are unable to remove the egg because you have not setup a rearing bin for it yet, try digging a small hole near where the egg was deposited. place the egg in the soil and cover the egg. keep the humidity in the enclosure a bit higher then normal until you are able to set up your incubation container.

i hope that this helps!

Hi,
Where can I purchase the Perlite for laying the pygmy eggs on to hatch. Is their other things you can get other than Perlite. I can't find this in Oklahoma any where. I enjoy your website so much. Also,. does anyone know where I can buy some more pygmy's. I think they are the cutest things. I just found a new egg in the cage and need to protect it. Her last one was all dented in both sides. This one is new and she just had a few days ago.
Thanks

hello Tera and congratulations on your first pygmy!

just a forewarning, this hobby can become addicting...lol

yes. you can use plants from the "indoor plant" sections at those stores. my preferences are the following:

mini palms
pothos
creeping fig ( or most any creping ficus plants )
mother in laws tongue

just make sure that you remove all of the soil that they were originally planted in. you can do this by running the plants roots under water and gently wiping away the dirt.

you will then need to replant the plant in a form of organic potting soil, peat moss or coco fiber ( which can be found at petstores ).

if you are lucky enough to see her lay the eggs, wait until she had fisnished laying, which can take a few hours, and also until she has finished covering the eggs with the soil..

you can then take a small plastic/ metal spoon and carefully dig them out.

to incubate them you can place themin a deli cup set up like i have described on the "breeding" page.

room temp is fine. simply place the cup on a shelf and check the dampness of the substrate every few days. in about 60-90 days, you will have hatchlings.

care for neonates is covered on the "feeing " page.

no wood shavings needed. those can acutally cause some esophagial namage if ingested and are not recommended for any chameleon species.

the thickness of the substrate needs to be 3-4 inches thick for gravid (preg) females. they tend to dig pretty far down to lay their eggs.

if you need any more help, dont hesitate to ask!

I just purchased a pygmy chameleon and she appears to be preg. Can I use plants from atwoods, lowes, walmart for her to climb on if so what is the kind I need to get? Also when she has the babies, what do I need to do as far as getting the eggs to hatch? I am a first timer on this as you can tell. Any help appreciated. I am going to get a large aquarium for her to live in. Do I need wood shavings for her and how thick does it need to be? Thanks for the help.

thank you for asking.

the majority of my plants that i have are purchased at places such as Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

look for their "indoor house plant" sections. almost all of the plants available there will be safe for terrarium use.

the Whites tree frog cage is roughly 30 gallons. big enough for one White's tree frog or as a holding tank for two younger ones.

Reed Frogs can be ordered at local pet shops. they are not usually something that they have in stock. Petco and Petsmart can order them, as well as the smaller mom and pop places..

thank you for asking!
