NEW PYGMY CHAMELEONS ARE HERE!!!!

i will try to upload some pictures in a little while!!

very excited. all (4) are FEMALE!

i asked for 2 of each sex, but oh well...

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

okay, im a little late at posting pictures, but better late then never...

female #1 named: Swift

(possibly already gravid)

female #2 named: Jelly

(possibly already gravid)

female #3 named: Bean

(this one is the thinnest of the group, and clearly not gravid, yet).

i have yet to see Pyro, the third female, out in the open in her temporary enclosure, so i havent posted pictures of her yet...

all in all, they seem to be quite healthy. 2 of the 4 seem to be heavily gravid, and should drop in the coming weeks if they are infact holding anything.

**SIDE NOTE**

i picked up a nice looking male Golden Gecko today. i should have pictures up of him and his tank in just a bit...

WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?!?

it seems as if i havent posted here in AGES!!

here are the latest updates:

1) my Hyperolius Puntcticulatus have spawned the first clutch of the season. approximately 100 eggs total that are close to hatching!!

2) i took some pictures of my Golden Gecko

3) one Female Pygmy chameleon layed a clutch of (4) eggs. all bad, however.

here are the photos of Chive, my Golden Gecko:

im having a hard time switching him from his mashed gecko diet to a regular feeding schedule of crickets and superworms...

this is his current home. i am waiting until i have time to finish setting up a spare 20 gallon tall for him. this suites him just fine for now though.

AND.... HERE IS THE EXCITING PART OF THE WEEK:

i came home on my lunch hour on Monday to find these... counted a little over 100 eggs. all but a few seem viable, so we will see how they turn out...

the front side of the leaf has another clutch on it...

as best a picture i could get of the pair that layed this clutch. they had finished after this photo was taken...

and, then some random photos of my chameleons:

this was the little frog that i posted about on the previous page some time ago, ( the one that i could not identify ). he has since changed color and patterns.

most of the egg spawn has started to hatch out.... i believe that tomorrow should be the first day that some of them will enter the water.......

here is a pic of their progress so far:

it is a bit large, sorry. but this was the only way i could get an illustrated picture of the developing tadpoles.

there are quite a few good ones. and about as many bad one's. however, it is to be expected as this was the first clutch ever for the pair that layed.

i didnt bother removing the dead eggs from the masses, i wanted natural selection to take care of that. if there are tads that arent healthy enough to survive to tadpole stage, then they wont hatch out....

these guys are SOOOO SMALL its ridiculous.....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday April 20th, 2008

as of today, there are now 25 - 30 tadpoles that have entered the water since hatching yesterday.

here is a picture from last night when there were only a few hatching:

more then half of the clutch ended up not forming / developing correctly.

the next time this group lays, i will work a few things differently for them to see if it makes a difference..

anyway, enjoy!

 ****UPDATE****

i also forgot to mention that while cleaning out one of my 40 gallon breeder tanks last night, ( this one held one single female Brev. chameleon), i found a clutch of (4) semingly fertile and well hydrated eggs.

by my guess, they were layed 2-3 weeks ago so that gives an estimated hatching date of late July to early August..

here are some pictures:

this is the female that layed them.. one of my oldest WC chams at around 2.5 years old now..

still kickin' along .....

----------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

All of the remaining live tadpoles in the H. Puncticulatus clutch have hatched. approx. 40 tadpoles now.

i will post pictures of the tube setup and the tadpoles tonight!

have a great afternoon!!

**UPDATE**

Okay, here is the progress so far...

There are roughly 40 tadpoles that are going strong.

I have set up a sterilite container in the same fashion that all of my previous clutches have hatched in...

Tank Specs:

20L sterilite container

5 watt betta heater

java moss

powdered tadpole food

bare bottom ( no substrate = nothing for tadpoles to get stuck and die under )

here are some pics:

sterilite container. very warm and humid.

inside view. 2-3 inches of water, heater, java moss, tadpoles and tadpole food.

close up shot of 2 tads..

thats all the pics for today. more updates later in the week!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

okay, here are some updates:

1). tadpoles are growing like weeds.... all 40 that had hatched are still alive. not a single loss...

2). sold my Savu Python

3). i have begun a new project for some future Poison Dart Frogs..

here are some pics of the tads from about a week ago:

and the female that layed them.

a lot has happened in the last few weeks.

let me fill you in..

1) i started working on a soon to be dart or mantella terrarium......

here is a pic of it so far.. it still needs to be planted, and of course adding the frogs ( about a month

or so from now ).

PIC:

there will be a pond area off to the right.. and some driftwood with attached brom's.

2). the clutch of reed tads are FINALLY starting to develop back legs.. a few are farther along then others,

which is normal.. i dont have any macro shots of that, but here is a pic of their holding tank(s) now:

PICS:

if you know how big those air stones are, they are a little longer then those..

feeding frenzy!!

3.) i descovered ANOTHER clutch of eggs a few days ago. this clutch had been sitting in the tank for

some time before i noticed them, because they were already pretty far along in the first development stages..

PIC:

there were two male reeds that were sitting close by the deposit site, who were less then thrilled when i

went in to retrieve the eggs:

PICS:

ANGRY!!!

CONFUSED!

and.......... i got a new shot of one of my pygmies!

PIC:

basking........

and lastly, here is an updated shot of my Golden Geckos tank:

the pothos plant took off and is growing like a weed. I also added some creeping fig to a piece of driftwood.

once it fills in a little more, it should look GREAT!

i realize that it has been nearly an entire month since i had last updated this site.. things have been a little

crazy with work lately.. lol

anyway, here are some updates:

the first batch of Reed frog tadpoles have almost finished morphing. all have sold except for my hold backs

for mext years breedings..

here are some pictures:

back legs have come in rather nicely on the last bunch of tadpoles.

making his way out of the water..........

FINALLY A FROG !!!  this guy is approx. 3 days old ( post morph )

i have roughly 11 more tadpoles left from the first clutch that are exiting the water.

UPDATE:

i found (4) more pygmy eggs while cleaning out an encosure last week. they are incubating now and are thought to be fertile.

the first clutch of pygmy eggs that i found are incubating well.. there is definitely growth in all of the (4) eggs.

they should be ready to hatch by sometime next month.

i have finished ( for now at least ) my latest tank project for some up coming mantellas or dart frogs

here is a pic of  the progress so far:

i still ahve to add some moss and duckweed to the pond area as well as find a low laying plant to add as a

ground cover plant.

EXCITING NEWS!!!

i went to the Zoo Boise "YEAR OF THE FROG" exhibit last weekend. and i saw my Mantella frogs !!!!

they even had them set up in the tank that i gave them as a display!!! they looked SO good !!

here are some pictures of them ( they arent that good, as there was a reflection on the glass no matter where i stood ):

a laminated sign they made for them :)

THEIR TANK!

the plants have grown in pretty well, even in the low wattage light that they had over the tank...

one of my frogs.. i gave them three initially, and i guess they had added a fourth to the group, as it was stated that there were (4)

frogs in the tank??

my first batch of pygmy eggs are getting VERY close to hatching now... i also came across another group of four eggs while cleaning an enclosure a couple of weeks ago..

a THIRD clutch of H. Punct eggs was discovered a few days ago. although, this batch doesnt seem to be faring too well. spring tails had already begun to colonize it and i haven't seen any movement /development in the clutch since... i have enough tadpoles to worry about now anyway..

here is a pic of the discovery as of late:

i am hoping that there are at least a few good eggs in here.. i'll hold onto the clutch until monday to see...

also, here is a night shot of half of my tanks, mainly my golden gecko, H. Punct and A. Fornasini cages, as well as my new dart/mantella tank to the front right:

these are some recent shots of some of the newly morphed frolgets. I have 11 hold backs for next years breedings..

and lastly for pictures, here is another update shot of my new dart or mantella tank:

i think that i have decided on Cryptopylobates Azuriventrus (sp?) as the future inhabitants..

i have also placed an order with a local breeder for (5) more pygmy chameleons which should be in on the 15th of July.

i will post pics of that when they are settled in..

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

some updates that i would like to share with everyone:

i was cleaning out my pygmy enclosures earlier this week and came across (15) pygmy chameleon eggs. all in different stages of development :

and then a day or two after i dug these up, these guys appeared:

if you look closely, there are (3) babys piled up here... 2 more baby's are not pictured. 4 males and 1 female hatched out.

also, here is an updated picture of my Dart frog tank:

i took out the pond area as it just didnt quite work with the frogs that i got.. Instead of C. Azuriventris, i puchased (6) Green Legged Lamasi ( thumbnail ) dart frogs.

there is quite a bit of new growth in the tank as you can see.. the creeping fig has really taken off now.. here are some shots of the fig growth:

The roots are starting to take over the glass wall !

and, here are pics of two of the six GL Lamasi that i got for this tank:

i have narrowed it down on the sexes. i believe that i have 2.3.1 as i have heard calling from atleast one frog, possibly two.

i think this might be one of the males.. ?

Also, my latest batch of reed tadpoles are morphing now.. this is a pic of one of the froglet from the first batch starting to show his adult coloration.

some new baby's losing their tails!

coser view of morphing frolget.

i had almost forgotten to mention this, but i was recently upgraded to "forum monitor" status on the pygmy chameleons website:

 pygmychameleon.co.uk

if you haven't checked it out already, please do. it has a wealth of information available and the members are are very friendly!

It is still a relatively new site, so all of the information is not available. however, your input is greatly appreciated!

well, i found my FIRST fertile green leg lamasi egg almost a week ago. it has been incubating in a deli cup and is just now starting to show signs of movement and growth..

i am SO excited, seeing as how many people have had their pairs/trios/quartets of lamasi's not produce for several months to years after they acquired them... i just hope this one doesnt morph out with SLS ( spindly leg syndrome ).

Here is a pic of the egg/tadpole so far:

i had to adjust the lighting on the pic to make the egg stand out a bit more.. this is so cool!

I also got in some springtails and leaves to add to some of my enclosures ( thanks to Porkchop48 on talkto.thefrog.org for those ).

here is a pic of the tank now:

the creeping fig has almost completely taken over this tank.. lol

Also, in other exciting news, i got in a group of (10 ) Vietnamese Mossy Frog Tadpoles about a week ago.. i am currently experimenting with water temperatures to see if i can get at least one of them to morph out as a female..

i will put some pics up of those guys and their transofrmations in a few days time..

I also had to upgrade my pygmy chameleon enclosures to accomodate all of the little ones.. (10 ) of them in all so far with another 3-4 eggs left to go.. 4 of the 15 eggs that i found several weeks ago were not fertile, so i had to toss them out..

here is a pic of one of the new neo nate enclosures :

i have (5) babies to an enclosure with plenty of Mopani/grapevine to climb around on..

The largest of the babies were introduced to lobster roach nymphs recently as well, which they  LOVED!

more update as time allows.. work has taken all of my free time recently.....

one more thing to add.. i also got in two "glass" reed frogs.. one of them is a bright neon green and the other is a super brigt lemon yellow. at first i thought they were Argus Reed's, but they are not... i will have to do some further reading on what exact species they are..

Pics of those will be up soon as well!
